The Pantry

It seems counterintuitive to take everything out. Won’t I make a whole lot of extra mess? Can’t I just shuffle things around? The simple answer is, no, it’s not ideal.

It is best to take it all out and start again. It's extraordinary what you will still find in there that is clever at hiding. It’s not until the pantry is completely cleaned out that you will know what you have. And most likely you will be astounded at what was squeezed into the space.

You might like to prepare beforehand for the big clean-out, buying jars that you can decant into. I don’t use stickers – I write on the jar with a black marker the item and the date I purchased it. At the same time, you can check the use-by dates. And make sure you don’t have any pesky moths ready to consume your dry goods.

Sometimes, creating a calmer and more functional home starts with the simple process of stepping back, resetting the space and finding ways to organise & harmonise your everyday surroundings.

As a helpful tip, I like using Parfait Familia Wiss preserving jars from OzFarmer, and I’ve also sourced beautiful storage pieces from Blissful Little Home.
